Robert Works On His Vocalization

This blog post came to us from Robert in an email. Robert takes various classes through Imagine!'s  CORE/Labor Source department and in one of his classes, his instructor Stephanie provides him with some assistance and sends an email to us with what Robert writes. Robert seems like a great candidate for having his own email account at some point.

I’m really getting clear in the singing class and I speak nice and clearly away from the microphone. I’m speaking where they can hear me. I really sound good and I asked the director Kirk how I sound. He said that I sound great and great is what I want to hear. Hopefully you can see me at my upcoming performance at the Fringe festival. So I have to get back with him on that date and I’ll tell you what it is.

Thanks, Signing off - Robert Strieby

John's Update: Cooking Class, Wildlife Experience, And More

This blog post came to us via an audio email from John who lives at the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder. John sent this on July 5th to his friend Gary, who was out of town on vacation until yesterday. During this week we’ll catch you up on a few more audio emails that came in from residents at the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome during the past couple of weeks.

I really like the way that you came over and took the photographing (of residents waving the flag for the 4th of July). It was really cool. Anyway, I’m going somewhere tomorrow with Just for the Fun of It. It's the Wildlife Experience in Parker.

I had a good cooking class; I had baked potato, a little chili, and some salad. I was in the ACL after Safeway near Louisville/Lafayette. So, anyway, I hope that you understand that I had a wonderful 4th of July already, and I hope that you did too. Don’t forget to come by next time. See ya, bye bye.

Donna's 8th Grade Photo

This photo came to us during a recent visit to the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome. Donna found a “treasure chest “ of things in an old storage box of hers as she was preparing for a garage sale at her home. One of the photos in the box was this 8th grade picture of her. Donna and her husband Gerald posed for the photo and she requested it be used for the blog. Our thanks to Bob and Judy Charles Counselor Shannon Bundy for the photo.

John Recalls Sleeping At The Air Force Academy

This blog post came to us as a conversation with John during a visit to the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome last week.

I don’t have a softball game this week, there’s a girl’s fast pitch tournament at the field. My sisters Melanie and Melissa used to play in the girl’s fast pitch tournament at Mapleton Field. I went and watched them. This was way back in the 1980s and 1990s.

I ran track and field in the Special Olympics back then.  I did the 50 and 100 meter dash and a relay where you hand off the baton. One year we went to the Air Force Academy and we got to sleep in the dorms overnight. The cadets were really nice. It has a big cafeteria.

Mandy's Poem "Instructions For Snow In April"

Mandy wrote this poem in a CORE/Labor Source class and read it at the Dairy Center for the Arts performance on June 21st.

Instructions for Snow in April

It’s snowing in April
Will this be a staple?
In December, the white dots were light
This spring, it is wet like an insane dog
The sun should shine
Bright enough to blind

To melt the snow:
1. Throw table salt over your shoulder as a message to the sun.
2. Eat oatmeal made with snow instead of water. It is recommended that you use a frozen snow bowl, if available.
3. Create a snow van and crawl inside. Then, pretend to drive up to Iris Avenue.
4. Meditate on heat.

Robert Is A True Patriot

This blog post came to us during a visit to Foothills Group Home where Robert lives.

Robert proudly waves his flag as he prepares for celebrating Independence Day.

Robert said, "The people in the Armed Forces are doing their best and we shouldn't forget them. If we could come to a talking agreement (with others) it would be better than fighting. I hope someday that happens."

Donna Enjoys Finding A Sack Of Coins

This blog post came to us last night during a visit to the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder. The residents at the house are preparing for a garage sale on August 10th and 11th. They are going through their belongings and seeing what they have that might be a good sale item.

While checking the contents of one of Donna’s storage boxes, Whitney, a Counselor at the home, found a sack of change adding up to $23.89. They were counting it up as their guest arrived. Donna greeted the guest in the hallway while repeating to the guest, “Camera!, camera!”

Their guest went to his car to retrieve the camera, and upon returning Donna asked him to close his eyes. When she said it was OK to look, he saw the table stacked with her change and started taking photos.  Donna’s housemates seemed as excited as she was about the find, as you can see in the pictures below.

Rae, in red, is as excited as Donna as they laugh about
finding Donna's $23.89 in the bottom of Donna's storage box.

Donna waves her hands so fast they are a blur, as Whitney (in blue)

at the excitement of Donna's newfound riches.
