I Had A Fun Birthday

This post was submitted by Donna, who is a resident of the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder, Colorado.

Hello, today is Monday, June 25th, and I would like to tell you a little bit about what I did over the weekend, and my new situation at CORE. Yesterday, I had a little birthday party, and my husband and I, we went to Turleys for dinner and had fun. We had hamburgers and mashed potatoes.

Here is an update on my weekly schedule. My CORE schedule is only one day a week and I work the rest of the week except for Mondays, when I am off. On Tuesday I go to CORE and I have Creative Writing and Jam Session. I like those two classes. I think they’re really neat. Sometimes it gets out of hand but they’re neat classes overall. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I go to work at In Clover. By the end of the week I am exhausted but it’s worth it. I enjoy going to work and seeing a little money go into my bank account so I can do a little bit with the money that I have earned. I think it’s really neat that we can do stuff like that.

Overall I am doing pretty good, and hope to be continuing to do as good as I can. OK. I’ll talk to you later, bye bye.

A Great Time At The Millennium Hotel Boulder FAC

This blog entry was submitted by Rebecca, who lives at the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder. All eight residents of that home, along with all six residents from the Charles Family SmartHome in Longmont attended the Millennium Hotel Boulder's Friday Afternoon Club on June 15 where Imagine! was the featured nonprofit.

Hi,

I want to thank everyone who helped us to get out to the Millennium Hotel fair (FAC) yesterday. We had a good time going to the fair with the tents, the band, food, drinks, and getting my arm painted with a butterfly.

Rebecca (left) shows off the butterfly which was painted on her arm, while Rebecca's housemate Rae displays art she created at the Millennium FAC.

Happy To Be On The Advocacy Council

This blog entry was submitted by Donna, who is a resident at the Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder, Colorado.

Today is June 14th and I am sitting down to write some information for my blog. Today I had a meeting with Lou Ella, who is on the (Imagine! Innovations) Advocacy Board that I am a member of, along with my housemates Lana and John. Lou Ella gave us an overview of some of the topics we discussed last week. The topics were about disabilities. I feel very happy that I’m part of the Advocacy Council and that we will make a big change in people’s life so they understand disabilities better. I’m happy to know Lou Ella, she is a very sweet individual.

Hoping Dad Heals Up Soon

This blog entry was submitted by Donna, who is a resident at Imagine!'s Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder, Colorado.

Today is June 12th and I had a pretty good day other than talking to my dad who just had surgery. I’m hoping that he’s OK. It was a real shock when I talked to my mom on the phone and she said they couldn’t go very far from home because of dad, and I just asked her why and she told me. But, I know they’re getting up there in age and they’re not going to be able to travel very far so I take it as it comes. Like they say, God gives us and God will take us. But it’s sad it’s that way.

I told my husband Gerald about it and he wants to send a card to mom and dad. This Sunday will be Father’s Day, that’s one reason why I was wanting to see if they could come up here, so we could celebrate Father’s Day with them. But with dad just having this procedure done he’s not going to be able to do much. So I guess cards are the best thing. Cards and phone calls to talk to mom and dad. To dad especially.

My day went pretty smooth. I had computer class, which was fun, and I had Jam Session which is also a neat time. We sang a bunch of Beatles songs, which I thought was fun with the people we had in class because everyone participated. I like having days like that where you can go into class and enjoy it because everyone is happy to be together. I guess that’s all for now. OK? Bye.

A Busy Week: Bolder Boulder, Theater Performance, And PT

This blog entry was submitted by Donna, who is a resident at Imagine!'s Bob and Judy Charles SmartHome in Boulder, Colorado.

Today is May 29. How was your day? I hope it was good. Here is my update on how I am doing and what I am doing. I’ve done the Bolder Boulder, and I’m doing the CORE/Labor Source performance with a rehearsal on Thursday and the live performance on Friday at the Dairy Center for the Arts. Also, I’m doing PT strengthening every day. I just wanted to share with you those three things so you can know where I’m going and where I went.

The Bolder Boulder I did yesterday, and I went all the way from the beginning to the end. It sure was fun. I did it with Gerald at my side the whole way. At the CORE/Labor Source performance I am going to be reading a poem and singing three or four songs with Gerald and one of the people from 19th Street Group Home.

PT strengthening I’m doing every day and I enjoy it. I am getting signatures for each time I do it. If I get seven signatures I get to do a two hour activity with Chantelle. Activities of my choice, of course. I love having that PT to do and I think it will be nice for me to be doing that. This is the end, and I’ll talk to you later. Bye bye.

Shelly's Skiing Adventure

Editor's Note:  This story was submitted by Shelly, who is a resident of Imagine!'s Charles Family SmartHome in Longmont, Colorado.

.. the day started early, I got up, got dressed, ate my breakfast and sipped my coffee in a hurry. I was ecstatic about the adventure that awaited me a few hours from now. After Pramila and Kristin loaded me in the van, along with Sarah and Wesley, we set out on the road towards our destination.

Just the word “SKIING” makes me jump with excitement. Yes, we were off to go down the snowy hills of The Winter Park, go skiing. Priyanka and I had gone a few days back to go get my ski pants, down jacket, gloves and a warm hat. I have been looking forward to this trip for what seemed like forever.

We reached there and parked in an empty parking lot. No one there ?? I saw Kristin call someone and then we were driving again, wrong parking lot, I smiled. When we finally reached the correct parking lot there were 15 volunteers there to welcome us. They were all smiles and so was I. They started fitting me into the ski gear, it was very exciting to experience the warmth of everyone's care and how comfortable they made me feel throughout the fitting process. We then had lunch and after lunch we got back into our ski gear and there we were --- READY, SET, Wheeee!!! Down the hill we went, my heartbeat was racing, the thrill and excitement was amazing!! We then went down a second time and I raced my roommate Sarah. I WON!!

I can't say How thankful I am for this incredible experience and hope to do it again!!
